ADMIRALS END AEROS WIN STREAK WITH 3-1 WIN

HOUSTON DOWNED BY MILWAUKEE 3-1

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – The Houston Aeros (4-6-1-0) lost to the Milwaukee Admirals (7-4-1-0) 3-1 Thursday night in front of 3,061 fans at the Bradley Center. The loss ended the Aeros’ two-game winning streak. G Pekka Rinne stopped 24 of 25 shots in net for his sixth win of the season, and C Cal O’Reilly added an empty net goal and an assist on LW John Vigilante’s game-winning goal. Houston LW Peter Olvecky scored the first goal of the game for the Aeros, but the Admirals came back with three unanswered goals to end their two-game losing streak.  Aeros' G Nolan Schaefer stopped 24 of 26 shots in the loss.

Houston received a power play midway through the first period when C Mike Santorelli went to the box for hooking at 7:07. D Alexander Sulzer gave Houston a brief five-on-three power play for nine seconds and the Aeros were able to convert at the end of Sulzer’s penalty. LW Peter Olvecky capitalized against the league’s best penalty kill unit at the 10:43 mark to give the Aeros a 1-0 lead, his first goal of the season. Olvecky wristed a shot above the glove side of Admirals’ goaltender Pekka Rinne on assists from C Adrian Foster and D Clayton Stoner. Houston killed a couple penalties to close out the period with the one-goal lead.

At the 2:43 mark of the second period, Aeros’ RW Troy Riddle was penalized for roughing. LW Oliver Setzinger notched his second goal of the season at end of the power play to tie the game at one on an unassisted goal. The goal marked the 11th straight time the Aeros have allowed a power play goal, every game this season. The team’s traded chances for the remainder of the period and were tied in shots at 16 and goals at one each after two periods.

LW John Vigilante scored the game-winning goal just 49 seconds into the final period when he tipped a pass underneath the equipment of Aeros’ G Nolan Schaefer. C Cal O’Reilly and Sulzer assisted on the goal. Houston had one power play opportunity in the third period, but could not convert. At the 19:32 mark, O’Reilly capped the game with an empty net goal to end the Aeros’ two-game winning streak.

Houston will travel to Quad City Friday night for their first game of the season against the Quad City Flames at 7:05 PM. They will end their stretch of three games in three nights at Toyota Center on Saturday against the Worcester Sharks at 7:35 PM. Fans are encouraged to attend as the first 3,000 fans will receive a mini helmet in recognition of Military Appreciation night.
