HOUSTON AEROS LOSE SECOND STRAIGHT, DROP 4-1 CONTEST TO PROVIDENCE

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Houston Aeros wrapped up a tour of the North East with a loss visiting the Providence Bruins in front of 3,821 fans at Dunkin’ Donuts Center Sunday afternoon. The Aeros (13-12-1-2) will have off until heading to Iowa Friday night as Providence (23-4-2-0) will host Lowell Friday.

Box Score

Two games in a row the Aeros tied a season-low with only two penalties called on the team. Also a tie for a season-low was three penalties against. The Aeros converted on one of three man-advantages as the Bruins failed to convert on either of their two chances. Houston goaltender Nolan Schaefer stopped 25 of 28 shots on net in 57:41 of time on ice. The Bruins net-minder Tuukka Rask blocked 22 of 23 shots.

League-leading Providence got on the board first as center David Krejci netted his fourth goal of the season. Defenseman Matt Lashoff and left wing T.J. Trevelyan marked the assists. Each team failed to convert on one power-play opportunity in the first period as the Bruins took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Houston took advantage of their second man-advantage opportunity a mere 14 seconds in the advantage as Paul Albers netted the puck for his fourth goal of the season. Center Steve Kelly and right wing Moises Gutierrez marked the assists on the power-play marker. Bruin’s defenseman Matt Hunwick picked off a pass and took the lead back with only 28 seconds left in the second period before heading into the locker room.

Providence held on to their momentum and recorded an insurance marker by center Matt Hendricks only 10 seconds into the final frame. Left wing Chris Collins and center Nate Thompson recorded the helpers. Late in the game Houston pulled Schaefer for the extra attacker. Krejci received a pass from right wing Martins Karsums and netting his second of the game in the empty to complete the 4-1 win over Houston.

The Aeros return home on December 22, 2007 when they host the Springfield Falcons. For a limited time, and while supplies last, get center ice/club seats for only $20 (regularly $30) and corner seats for only $15 (regularly $22) each.
