HOUSTON - Houston Aeros President and General Manager Dave Barr announced today that the Minnesota Wild (National Hockey League) have assigned defenseman Ladislav Benysek (LAD-his-SLAHV, BEHN-ih-sikh) to Houston. Also the Aeros have released defenseman Darryl McArthur and forward Dennis Shiryaev from their tryout contracts.
Benysek, 27, has played in 14 games for Minnesota this season, recording eight penalty minutes. The Olomouc, Czech Republic-native played for the Wild in 2001-02. He skated in a career-best 74 NHL games and posted career-highs in assists (7) and points (8). He led the Wild in with 157 blocked shots. Overall, he's played in 161 NHL games with Minnesota and Edmonton, collecting three goals and 12 assists for 15 points. He also has played in five seasons with HC Olomouc and Sparta Praha in the Czech Republic League. Benysek will join the team in Milwaukee for Sunday's game.
Shiryaev played in two games for Houston and collected five penalty minutes. McArthur also played in two games with two penalty minutes.
The Aeros start their three game road trip in Milwaukee on Sunday trying to extend their 11-game unbeaten streak (9-0-2). Game time is 5:12 PM and can be heard on AM 700 KSEV, "The Voice" and at www.aeros.com.
