AEROS HOST MILWAUKEE FRIDAY AT TOYOTA CENTER

HOUSTON – G Anton Khudobin (8-3-0) recorded his third shutout of the season stopping all 16 shots, as the Houston Aeros (10-9-0-0) shutout the Peoria Rivermen (8-6-1-2) 1-0 Wednesday in front of 2,603 at Toyota Center. RW J-M Daoust recorded the only goal of the game and Peoria G Ben Bishop (4-4-1) saved 20 shots in the loss.

BOXSCORE

The two clubs played to a scoreless first period where Peoria held the advantage in shots on goal 6-5. The Aeros failed to convert on two power-play opportunities while the Rivermen were held scoreless on their only man advantage.

The Aeros would have to fight off three Peoria power plays in the middle frame, highlighted by their last penalty kill in the closing minutes of the period, to keep the game scoreless.

“I thought the turning point was when Nathan Smith lost his stick and was out there and helped, but the other three guys kind of killed it on their own out there,” said Aeros head coach Kevin Constantine. “They were out there the whole two minutes, blocked shots and got it done.”

The game remained scoreless through most of the third period until Daoust broke the tie at the 11:05 mark. RW Jon DiSalvatore sent a shot on net that rebounded to the stick of Daoust who punched it home for the power play goal and eventual game-winner; Smith was credited with the second assist.

“We knew that eventually they’d get chances during the game and it would take a pretty good team effort and goaltending effort and we got both,” said Constantine.

The Aeros outshot Peoria 21-16 and held the Rivermen scoreless on the power-play going 5-for-5 on the penalty kill. The Aeros finished the night 1-for-4 on the power play.

The Aeros welcome in the Milwaukee Admirals to Toyota Center Friday for a 7:35 p.m. puck drop. The game can be heard on 1070 AM KNTH and on ahllive.com. Follow the in-game blog on zamchron.com.
