AEROS EXTEND POINT STREAK TO SEASON-HIGH SIX

HOUSTON - D Mike Brennan scored 2:12 into overtime as the Houston Aeros (19-15-6-1) fell 2-1 to the Rockford IceHogs (21-18-2-2) Sunday in front of 5,014 at Toyota Center. RW J-M Daoust scored the lone goal for Houston in regulation and G Wade Dubielewicz (8-8-0) saved 29 of 31 to get saddled with the loss. LW Kyle Greentree also scored for Rockford while G Corey Crawford (6-8-1) made 26 saves to earn the win.

"The game was a hockey game which we survived off a lot of penalty kills," said Head Coach Kevin Constantine. "We had to kill a ton. I wasn't real disappointed with the power-play not scoring because they hadn't been out. The frustrating part was getting scored on in overtime."

The Aeros took the only two penalties in the opening frame and Rockford held the advantage in shots on goal 14-8, but it was Houston who lit the lamp for the period’s only goal. C Chad Rau took a feed from D Ryan Gunderson to the low slot where he threw a shot off the chest of Crawford. Daoust, stalking the far post, slapped the rebound out of mid-air and past the Rockford net-minder at 4:28.

Rockford netted the second period’s lone goal to tie the game at 1-1. The IceHogs broke into the Aeros zone on a 3-on-2 opportunity where RW Akim Aliu sent a cross-ice pass to Greentree at the top of the left circle who beat Dubielewicz top shelf at 3:57.

Neither side could find the netting in the third period setting up Houston’s fourth overtime game in their last six outings. Houston had their opportunities early in the extra session with a flurry of shots against Crawford. The Aeros came up empty, however, and that set up Brennan who sent a wrister on net that caught the back end of Dubielewicz's stick before creeping across the goal line.

"It's our lowest part of the year," Constantine said. "We've lost two players. We had to get one from the Central Hockey League out of Dallas and one from the East Coast Hockey League so it's the most beat up we've been this year by far and I don't know if any of the guys who are out are going to be ready to go."

The IceHogs posted over 30 shots against Houston for the third straight game outshooting the Aeros 31-27. Both clubs were scoreless on the man advantage with Houston going 0-for-2 and Rockford going 0-for-6.

The Aeros travel to Rockford to face the IceHogs for the third straight game. Game time at the Rockford Metro Centre is set for 7:05 PM. Watch the game live on ahllive.com and listen to Aeros broadcaster Joe O’Donnell on 1070 AM-KNTH. Follow the interactive in-game blog on aeros.com.
