ROSEMONT, IL – The Chicago Wolves (36-17-0-4) scored six first period goals en route to a 7-1 victory over the Houston Aeros (27-24-6-1) in front of 14,104 at Allstate Arena Saturday night. D Jamie Hunt and RW Spencer Machacek each scored two goals and G Drew MacIntyre (15-11-1) made 31 saves in the victory. D Maxim Noreau scored for the Aeros and G Wade Dubielewicz (12-11-0) allowed four goals on 17 shots in the loss.

BOXSCORE

The Wolves began the game honoring former head coach John Anderson, now head coach of the Atlanta Thrashers (NHL). The ceremony appeared to jump start the Wolves, who surged in front 1-0 just 1:27 into the game as D Paul Postma fired a shot past Dubielewicz from the slot. The lead extended to 2-0 during four-on-four play as Machacek used a fortunate bounce to break in alone on Dubielewicz and deked to the forehand for his 13th goal of the season.

At 5:29, Hunt scored the first of back-to-back goals that put Chicago up 4-0. The first was a slap shot past the left pad of Dubielewicz that resulted in a change in goal for the Aeros as G Barry Brust entered for Houston. The floodgates remained open for the Wolves, though as Hunt scored his second of the game at 9:52 on the power play.

C Matt Anderson extended the lead to 5-0 before Houston finally responded with a power play goal from Noreau. From the top of the right circle Noreau fired a shot under the arm of MacIntyre at 18:30. Chicago quickly answered as LW Brett Sterling scored his 32nd of the season at 19:37 to send his team to the first intermission leading 6-1.

Neither team scored in the second period where the Aeros outshot the Wolves 10-5. Machacek then scored his second of the game at 7:21 of the third period.

The seven goals allowed matches a season high for the Aeros since falling 7-2 to Grand Rapids last Friday (2/12). The Aeros outshot Chicago 32-22 and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Wolves finished the night 1-for-5 on the man advantage scoring during a 5-minute major penalty to Aeros RW Carson McMillan for Elbowing at 5:29 of the first period.

The Aeros finish its road 3-in-3 tomorrow night in Peoria against the Rivermen for a 5 p.m. puck drop from Carver Arena. Watch the game on ahllive.com or listen on 1070 AM-KNTH. The Aeros return home to Toyota Center Thursday, Feb. 25, for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Manitoba Moose so be sure to check out the "Spring Fling" deal on aeros.com.
