OKLAHOMA CITY --- Peter Kalus registered a three-point night (2-1-3)and Joel Broda (2-0-0) scored twice as the Houston Aeros opened the 2010-11 season with a 6-1 win over the Oklahoma City Barons at the Cox Convention Center Saturday night.

Aeros goalie Matt Hackett turned aside 30 shots, including 14 in the third period, for his first pro win while Mike Yeo guided the team to a victory in his head coaching debut. Jean Michel-Daoust (0-2-2) and Jon DiSalvatore (1-1-2) chipped in with two points each.

Houston led 2-0 by the 16:08 mark of the first period on goals by Colton Gillies and DiSalvatore, who converted on the power play.

Broda scored his first pro goal, slipping a rebound past Barons goalie Martin Gerber, 7:47 into the middle period to give Houston a 3-0 lead.

Teemu Hartikainen scored OKC's first goal in franchise history to cut the lead to two with an unassisted 4-on-4 tally at 10:53 of the second. Kalus regained the three-goal advantage with 1:15 left in the second and then made it 5-1 Houston with his second of the night at 7:23 of the third. Broda followed up at 16:25 on the power play for his second of the night with a shot that he snapped under the crossbar.

Houston went 2-for-7 on the power play while the Aeros penalty kill stopped all seven OKC power play opportunities.
