AEROS COME UP SHORT AT MILWAUKEE

MILWAUKEE --- Nate Prosser and Cody Almond extended scoring streaks for the Houston Aeros but a pair of goals by the Milwaukee Admirals 17 seconds apart in the third period were enough to hand the visitors a 3-2 loss Wednesday night at the Bradley Center.

The loss ends a modest two-game winning streak for the Aeros, who close a three-game road trip Thursday night at Rockford and return home on Saturday vs. division-leading San Antonio. Houston maintains the No. 6 spot in the West Division race.

Houston’s Prosser extended his scoring streak to three games with a goal 16:17 into the first, answering Ryan Thang’s tally at 9:18 to even the score at 1-1.

After a scoreless second period, Milwaukee exploded for a pair of goals 17 seconds apart in the opening two minutes of the final stanza. Matt Halischuk gave the Admirals the lead at 1:35 and Blake Geoffrion connected at 1:52 to give the Admirals a two-goal lead.

Almond, who has a point in each of the last two games, pulled Houston within one on the team’s third power play. He scored just 34 seconds after Roman Josi was whistled for tripping 2:26 into the third period, but the Aeros couldn’t get the equalizer past goalie Mark Dekanich, who stopped 29 of 30 for the win.

Anton Khudobin stopped 16 of 19 in the loss for the Aeros, who square off at Rockford Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. CST. The team returns home on New Year’s Day for a 7:35 p.m. game vs. San Antonio at Toyota Center. The game features the annual Miss Aeros Contest.
