A select team of players from the Houston area competed in the Walmart Hockey Cup High School Festival in Blaine, Minn. The team captured third place with a 4-2 win over Bloomington Kennedy.
The tournament, at the National Sports Center (the world’s largest amateur sports facility), exposed the team to competition from teams at the Minnesota High School Hockey Festival and teams from around the country. The Houston All-Stars sported jerseys provided by the Aeros.
"This is a great opportunity to remind the rest of the country that youth and high school hockey in Houston is both vibrant and competitive," Aeros Director of Outside Sales and Special Events John Young said. Young coordinates the partnership between the ISHL (InterScholastic Hockey League) and the Aeros.
Many of the players competing at the tournament also took part in the ISHL All-Star Winter Classic game that was held at Toyota Center on New Years Day.
