BARONS DEFEAT HOUSTON AEROS IN OKLAHOMA CITY 4-0
Aeros Remain In Oklahoma City On Saturday To Finalize Preseason Play
Oklahoma City, OK – The Houston Aeros were defeated by the Oklahoma City Barons 4-0 at the Cox Convention Center on Friday night. The Barons capitalized for a pair of power-play goals in the second period and added two more goals in the third period for the four-goal preseason win. Four different Barons scored in the win, as Oklahoma City went three-for-nine on the power play. Barons goalie Olivier Roy made 15 saves for the shutout. Houston goalie Matt Hackett finished with 18 saves on 22 Barons shots. The Aeros and Barons will round out their two-game preseason series in Oklahoma City on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
After a scoreless first period, the Barons took advantage of a power play, scoring off a five-on-three advantage at 16:40 of the second period. Oklahoma City’s Ryan Martindale opened the scoring, giving the Barons a 1-0 lead. While continuing on the man advantage, the Barons struck again just 26-seconds later for a two-goal lead. Defenseman Justin Schultz scored a power-play goal from Martindale and Teemu Hartikainen at 17:06 of the second frame to make it 2-0.
In the third period, Barons winger Marc Arcobello made it 3-0 with an even-strength goal at 7:55. Anti Tyrvainen and Taylor Fedun each picked up an assist on the team’s third tally of the night. With another five-on-three advantage, the Barons increased their lead to 4-0 at 11:09 of the third frame. Kristians Pelss buried a power-play goal, the team’s third of the evening, with assists from Brandon Davidson and Anton Lander.
The Aeros will play the second of two preseason games in Oklahoma City on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 7:00 p.m. (CT) at the Cox Convention Center.
The Aeros will play 76 regular-season games this season. The home portion of the schedule commences on Saturday, October 13, at 7:05 p.m. with the Charlotte Checkers at Toyota Center. The game will commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first Aeros game played by the World Hockey Association (WHA) team in 1972.
