MARLIES USE LATE SURGE TO PUSH PAST HOUSTON AEROS 6-4
Aeros Hosts Military Night and Lake Erie at Toyota Center at 7:05 p.m. on Friday 

Houston, TX – The Houston Aeros (5-4-1-1, 12 points) were defeated by the Toronto Marlies (4-4-0-1, 9 points) 6-4 on Thursday night in front of 3,046 fans at Toyota Center. The Marlies scored four goals in the third period, erasing a 4-2 deficit and producing the team’s second road win of the season. Toronto’s Leo Komarov, Jake Gardiner, Carter Ashton and Ryan Hamilton each scored in the final frame. Ashton finished with two goals to lead the Marlies offense. Aeros forwards Charlie Coyle, Chad Rau and Justin Fontaine each scored in the defeat. Toronto goalie Ben Scrivens (3-3-0) picked up the win with 24 saves. Houston goalie Matt Hackett (2-4-1) suffered the defeat with 29 saves on 34 shots. Houston will continue a four-game home stand on Friday with the Lake Erie Monsters at 7:05 p.m. at Toyota Center.

Toronto struck for the night’s first goal at 2:54 of the opening period. Carter Ashton tallied his second goal of the year from Will Acton and Korbinian Holzer for a 1-0 lead. Houston countered six minutes later, tying the game behind Justin Fontaine’s third tally of the season. Joel Broda and Chay Genoway each had an assist on the goal. The game was tied 1-1 after a period of play.

Houston jumped ahead in the second period, starting with Chad Rau’s deflection at 4:10 of the period. Rau tipped a point shot by Corbin Baldwin, scoring his third goal of the season. Winger Kris Foucault also added an assist on the play, putting Houston in front 2-1. The Marlies tied the game 1:41 later as Keith Aucoin scored his first goal of the season. The Aeros answered back with a pair of goals. Jason Zucker sniped his third goal of the season, unassisted at 12:03 for a 3-2 Houston lead. Left wing Charlie Coyle scored with only 21 seconds left in the period. Zack Phillips sprung Coyle for a scoring chance in the Toronto zone and the rookie slipped the puck past Scrivens for his seventh goal of the season for a 4-2 lead.

The Marlies closed the gap at 7:10 of the third, as Leo Komarov tipped a shot by Paul Ranger to trim the deficit to 4-3. Joe Colbourne added an assist on his team’s third goal of the night. The Marlies tied the game 4-4 at 11:57 of the final period, as Jake Gardiner scored his fourth goal of the season. Aucoin set up the power-play goal with his second point of the night. At 12:26, the Marlies pushed in front 5-4 with an even-strength goal by Ashton, his second goal of the night. Nicholas Deschamps and Will Acton each had an assist on the go-ahead goal. The Marlies finished off the scoring with an empty-net goal at 18:55 by Ryan Hamilton for the 6-4 final.


The Aeros, StarSkater.org and Texas Army National Guard will host Military Night on Friday, November 9th. The first 1,500 fans will receive an Aeros Rally Towel, compliments of Texas Army National Guard. The team will also host the first of eight drives for charity throughout the season, starting with a Care Package drive for all military personnel overseas. Two tickets for select future games will be awarded for each donation (up to ten per person). The Aeros will also wear Camouflage jerseys.

The team rounds out its four-game home stand on Sunday, Nov. 11 with the Texas Stars at 5:05 p.m. at Toyota Center. This season, every Sunday home game is a Sunday Family Day. Aeros fans may purchase four tickets, parking and four Aeros gifts starting at $54.
