HOUSTON, Texas – Twenty-year-old Peter Olvecky forced overtime with a goal early in the third period and 19-year-old Roman Voloshenko also scored and added the deciding shootout tally, as the Houston Aeros rallied for a 4-3 victory over the San Antonio Rampage at Toyota Center. Petr Taticek also scored and Seamus Kotyk made 25 saves plus four-of-five in the shootout for Houston, which went 5-0-0-1 on its six-game homestand. The Aeros travel to San Antonio for a rematch on Sunday at 5:05 p.m.



Chris McAllister scored his first two goals since the 2000-01 season, Martin Sonnenberg added a tally and Scott Stirling finished with 38 saves for San Antonio, which is winless in its last six (0-5-0-1).



Houston is 17-2-1-0 all-time at home against the Rampage, and 10-0-1-0 in the last 11 meetings including seven straight wins.



Voloshenko’s team-best 12th goal got Houston on the board only 2:04 into the game, just seconds after Kotyk stoned Jamie Lundmark on a 2-on-1. Erik Westrum fed Erik Reitz at the right point. Reitz unleashed a shot, and Stirling made the save but left the rebound on the doorstep. Voloshenko hopped on the puck and slid it into the net for his 10th goal in nine home games.



McAllister’s first pro goal since the 2000-01 season with NHL Philadelphia got San Antonio even at 4:58 of the first. He rebounded a Lance Monych shot from the low slot by Kotyk. The Aeros got caught with three defensemen on the ice after a penalty to Ryan Stokes expired.



Sonnenberg put the Rampage on top just 2:17 later. Tim Jackman shot from the right circle, and Kotyk made the save. But the puck went in off a sliding Sonnenberg’s body, his second goal of the season.



Taticek’s fourth of the season got Houston even at 2-2, with the Aeros on the power play with 5:26 left in the first. Kurtis Foster made a nice play at the point to keep the puck in the zone, and he got it to Patrick O’Sullivan in the left circle. O’Sullivan slid a pass to Taticek between the circles, and the former Rampage forward rifled a one-timer under Stirling’s pads.



McAllister’s second of the game put San Antonio back on top, 7:39 into the second. McAllister raced out of the penalty box and picked Kotyk’s pocket behind the net as the goalie tried to clear the puck. McAllister walked into the left circle and fired the puck into the empty net.



McAllister’s goal helped San Antonio take its first lead of the season after two periods.



Olvecky’s power play goal – his sixth tally of the season – tied it at 3-3 at 4:05 into the third. Kirby Law, along the left wing boards, fed Curtis Murphy at the center point. Murphy one-timed a pass right to Olvecky at the left doorstep, and Olvecky tapped it into the open corner of the net.



The Aeros got a power play with six minutes left, and just after kicking out Reitz’ point blast, he snared O’Sullivan’s rebound attempt. Seconds later, O’Sullivan’s tip shot hit the outside of the post.



Houston outshot San Antonio 15-4 in the third period.



Houston’s Joel Ward got called for hooking with 2:49 left in overtime, the Aeros’ third overtime penalty kill in their last three home overtime games. Murphy, Reitz and Rem Murray didn’t allow a shot in the first 80 seconds of the penalty kill, and the Rampage didn’t fare any better in the remaining portion of the man advantage.



The Aeros went on the power play with 27.4 ticks left in the extra session, but also couldn’t score. Stirling stopped Law twice in the waning seconds to force the shootout.



Lundmark led off for San Antonio, but Kotyk kicked the attempt away. Westrum climbed over the boards for the Aeros, and Stirling came out to pokecheck the forehand shot.



In round two, Monych went for the Rampage and scored top shelf over Kotyk’s glove. O’Sullivan countered for the Aeros and went five-hole on Stirling to tie up the shootout.



Layne Ulmer was San Antonio’s third shooter, and Kotyk made a blocker save. Law – the Aeros’ captain – shot the puck into Stirling’s glove.



San Antonio’s Brent Cullaton – recalled earlier in the day from CHL Laredo – was stoned by Kotyk, and Voloshenko scored over Stirling’s glove.



McAllister was San Antonio’s last hope, and his shot went wide.



Houston finished 2-for-8 on the power play, while San Antonio went 0-for-5. The Aeros have killed off 27 straight shorthanded chances over their last five games, after allowing at least one power play goal in each of their first 13 games.

The Aeros scratched Miroslav Kopriva, Colin Peters, Adam Courchaine, Mark Rooneem, Joey Tetarenko and Andrei Nazarov.

Law played in his 98th straight game with the Aeros, moving past Mark Freer and establishing a new franchise record.

The Aeros are a perfect 11-0-0-0 when scoring three or more times.

Westrum has a six-game point streak. He began the season with points in seven straight games. He leads the AHL in scoring with 27 points (8-19=27).

Murphy moved past Mark Cullen into sole possession seventh place on the team’s all-time assist list with 78. He also passed Kyle Wanvig for sole possession of 15th on the team’s all-time points list with 114.

Ten of Voloshenko’s 12 goals have come at home. He has six points (3-3=6) in his last four games overall.

Reitz has an assist in three straight games.

San Antonio scored only its fifth second-period goal of the season tonight.

The Rampage is 4-1-0-1 in one-goal games, but 0-8-0-0 in games decided by two or more goals.

Houston is 4-1 in shootouts and a league-best 8-1-1-1 in one-goal games.

The Aeros have trailed at one point in six of their 12 victories.
