Mark Cullen, a member of the Aeros from 2002-05, not only made his NHL debut Thursday for the Chicago Blackhawks, but he scored his first NHL goal in a 4-2 win over St. Louis.
Cullen, a key member of Houston's 2003 Calder Cup championship team, was recalled from AHL Norfolk on Tuesday. He was on the ice for St. Louis' first goal - with former Aeros roommate Jeff Hoggan picking up an assist - but he found the back of the net 4:21 into the third period.
Cullen's centering pass was blocked by a defender, but he got the puck and backhanded a hard angle shot by Patrick Lalime.
Cullen, the 12th member of the Aeros' 2004-05 team to dress for an NHL game this season, becomes the sixth former Aero to score his first NHL goal this season.
Hoggan, Minnesota's Derek Boogaard, Matt Foy and Mikko Koivu and Dallas' Junior Lessard have also notched their first NHL goals this season. All but Hoggan played for the Aeros in 2004-05.
