Jr. Reporter goes 1-on-1 with All-Star Law

Hey Now – He’s an All-Star!

Law makes his second trip in three years

Kirby Law can add one more accomplishment to his already impressive resume – 2006 AHL All-Star. While this might not be his first trip to the All-Stars, which he also attended in 2004, he has worked hard on the team, and earned the right for his second trip. Law, who leads the Aeros with 27 goals, as well as second in the league in points and assists and goals, has been key for the team all year, not only with his playing skills, but his leadership skills as well.

“Kirby has been a real key guy for us all year,” said Aeros head coach Rob Daum. “He’s a real consistent player and he’s provided a lot of offense for us, which we anticipated, but his all around game is his strength. He makes some excellent plays offensively and does some good things defensively as well.

When asking other Aeros players who they see as a leader and mentor on the team, Law’s name comes up over and over.

Added Daum, “Game in and game out, he always gives you the same type of game, and that’s a real positive.”

ONE ON ONE WITH KIRBY LAW

MM: What do you think is the best thing about playing hockey?

KL: I think its being together with 20 guys and being part of a team and going out there every night and try to accomplish something. It’s kind of a grueling long year and to go with 20 guys they become some of your best friends and it’s just a great feeling.

MM: What sports did you play growing up?

KL: Basically high school sports, volleyball, basketball, badminton and stuff like that. As I got a little older I played golf.

MM: What do you feel is your greatest strength as a player?

KL: I think it’s my willingness. I’m not afraid to work and get into corners and grind it out a little bit and I just try to be a two way player.

MM: Where do you live in the off season?

KL: I live back home in McCreary, Manitoba. It’s just a small community, basically a farming community where my parents farm. We have grain and cattle so I’m back home helping them throughout the summer.

MM: When did you decide you wanted to play hockey?

KL: I don’t think I ever really decided, I think it was just a way of life. I started skating probably at 3-4 years-old and played hockey growing up. I don’t ever think it was a decision to say ‘hey I want to play hockey professionally,’ it was just something I wanted to do as early as I can remember.

MM: Do you do anything special before a game?

KL: Not really. I’m not too superstitious. Nothing really that I do every single time.

MM: What is your most memorable hockey moment?

KL: It would probably be between playing in the Memorial Cup when I was younger and obviously my first NHL game.

MM: Where is your favorite place to vacation?

KL: That’s a good question. I really haven’t been anywhere too exciting. I enjoy my summers back home. It’s a very quiet small town so it’s very relaxing back there.

MM: Do you have kids?

KL: Yes, I have an older daughter; she’s nine, and a set of twins (girls) on the way. (Due in March!)

MM: Can you tell me about family life growing up?

KL: I’m from a small community and basically in Canada, there’s only so many things to do. In winter time you play hockey and in the summertime you just kind of hang out. Like I said, it’s a farming community and so you just kind of work back home on the farm and stuff like that and it’s very relaxing.

MM: What do you like to do in Houston for fun?

KL: Well, we’re pretty busy. Obviously there are some pretty good golf courses here and we try and get out whenever we can and we go to quite a few movies and stuff like that.

MM: What is your favorite movie?

KL: Tombstone.

MM: Do you have any pets?

KL: We have two cats.
