Matt Shaw is in his seventh season as an assistant coach with the Aeros, having come to Houston as an assistant to then-head coach Dave Barr in 2001.
Shaws primary responsibility for Rob Daum is working with the defense. Shaw filled in for the ill Todd McLellan for several games in 2003-04.
Prior to coming to Houston, Shaw spent the 1999-00 season as head coach for the Quad City Mallards in the United Hockey League. He led the team to a sparkling 53-16-5 regular season mark. The Mallards fell to Flint in the Colonial Cup finals.
He has also been head coach with the Mobile Mysticks of the ECHL. Shaw has worked as an assistant coach at Quad City and the Chicago Wolves.
He began his coaching career with his Alma Mater, Colorado College beginning in 1989.
Shaw and his wife Carolyn have two children daughter Clare and son, Hayden.
