HOUSTON AEROS EDGED BY GRIFFINS 2-1 IN A SHOOTOUT
Aeros Welcome Toronto to Toyota Center at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday 

Houston, TX – The Houston Aeros (5-3-1-1, 12 points) were defeated by the Grand Rapids Griffins (4-4-1-1, 10 points) 2-1 in a shootout on Sunday night in front of 4,637 fans at Toyota Center. Grand Rapids goalie Petr Mrazek (1-0-0) stopped 30 of 31 in regulation and all four attempts in the shootout to preserve the win for the Griffins. Despite making 31 saves on 32 shots in regulation, Houston goalie Matt Hackett (2-3-1) suffered the loss after stopping three of five in the shootout. Houston center Chad Rau scored the team’s lone goal in regulation, helping the Aeros pick up a point for the seventh time in the last eight games (5-1-1-1). Grand Rapids center Landon Ferraro scored the Griffins lone goal, as his club improved to 4-2-0-0 on the road this season. Houston will continue a four-game home stand on Thursday with the Toronto Marlies at 7:05 p.m. at Toyota Center.

After a scoreless first period, Grand Rapids picked up the only goal of the second period. Center Landon Ferraro blasted a shot from the point that feathered through traffic and into the Houston net. Defenseman Adam Almquist had the lone assist on Ferraro’s third goal of the season at 6:07 for the 1-0 lead.

Houston pulled even at 9:40 of the third period, as center Chad Rau put in a rebound off his own shot to tie the game 1-1. Defenseman Chay Genoway and forward Carson McMillan each had an assist on Rau’s second goal of the year.

After a scoreless overtime, the two teams skated to a shootout. The Griffins received goals from defenseman Brendan Smith and winger Francis Pare. Houston was unable to beat goalie Petr Mrazek in the shootout, missing on four attempts. Matt Hackett stopped two of four attempts for Houston, as the Aeros dropped to 1-1 in shootouts this season.

A four-game home stand continues on Thursday, Nov. 8 with a 7:05 p.m. faceoff versus the Toronto Marlies. It will be a “Thirsty Thursday” compliments of The Maple Leaf Pub. As part of the promotion, the Maple Leaf Pub will hand out a limited number of “2nd drink free” coupons prior to every Thursday night home game during the regular season. The first 1,000 fans to the game will receive a Koozie, compliments of The Maple Leaf Pub.

The Aeros and Texas Army National Guard will host Military Night on Friday, November 9th. The first 1,500 fans will receive an Aeros Rally Towel, compliments of Texas Army National Guard. The team will also host the first of eight drives for charity throughout the season, starting with a Care Package drive for all military personnel overseas. Two tickets for select future games will be awarded for each donation (up to ten per person). The Aeros will also wear Camouflage jerseys.

The team rounds out its four-game home stand on Sunday, Nov. 11 with the Texas Stars at 5:05 p.m. at Toyota Center. This season, every Sunday home game is a Sunday Family Day. Aeros fans may purchase four tickets, parking and four Aeros gifts starting at $54.
