The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights have won the first two meetings this season – both by shutout – including a 4-0 home victory Saturday. But Houston was a perfect 5-0-0-0 at home versus Omaha last season, outscoring the Knights by a 20-10 margin.
The Knights are 2-0-1-0 in their last three and are 14-7-2-0 for 30 points – three behind first-place Chicago. Omaha is an impressive 8-3-2-0 on the road. Only Chicago (10-2-0-0) has more road victories among Western Conference teams.

The Aeros play their third game against Omaha in eight nights. They don’t meet again until January 13 in Omaha, and the Knights don’t visit Toyota Center again until February 6 and February 8.

Tallied Houston's lone goal in two games last week...Has six points (2-4=6) in 21 games.

Notables –
  • The Aeros are tied for second in the league on the penalty kill at 87.3 percent.
  • Aeros veteran D Peter Ratchuk has eight points (2-6=8) in his last nine games.
  • Sixteen of Houston's 66 goals this season are currently on recall to the NHL's Minnesota Wild. RW Matt Foy, C Wyatt Smith and D Shawn Belle are all with the Wild, as is C Jason Morgan, who had hip surgery last month.
  • Houston has lost five straight in regulation on the road, a new franchise record, after winning five in a row on the road. The Aeros have led for just more than nine minutes in the current run.
  • The Aeros have a chance to get well at home, with seven of their last 10 December games in the friendly confines of Toyota Center. Houston plays just one of its next 10 outside the state of Texas - a December 27 road tilt at first-place Chicago. The Aeros play 10-of-14 at home through January 7.

    The National Hockey League’s Minnesota Wild went 0-2-1 last week, picking up a point Saturday in a 4-3 shootout loss at Dallas…Minnesota plays three games this week – all at home…The Wild hosts Chicago on Tuesday, Calgary on Thursday and Chicago again on Saturday….C Wyatt Smith has an assist in 14 games…RW Matt Foy has four PIM’s in five games…D Shawn Belle made his NHL debut last Friday, and picked up an assist Saturday in Dallas in his second game…C Jason Morgan remains on injured reserve following hip surgery last month.

    The ECHL’s Texas Wildcatters completed a grueling seven-game road trip 6-1-0-0 to move to an American Conference best 13-3-2-0…The Wildcatters rank third in the entire ECHL with 28 points…Texas begins a six-game homestand with three games against Charlotte on Thursday, Friday and Saturday…F Kevin Baker (16-12=28), who attended Aeros camp, leads the ECHL in goals and is fifth in points… D Mike Madill (0-14=14) and D Paul Albers (4-10=14), both Minnesota Wild contracts, are the top two scoring rookies on the team… F Mark Rooneem has seven points (5-2=7) in 17 games…F Riley Emmerson has 37 PIM’s in 13 games… G Miroslav Kopriva is 3-0-0 with a 3.27 gaa and a .905 save pct. in six games, including his first shutout, a 35-save outing Saturday in Florida…G Matt Yeats, who attended Aeros camp, is 10-3-2 with a 3.26 gaa and a .903 save pct.

    The Central Hockey League’s Austin Ice Bats won all three games last week and are 8-6-4, in third place in the Southeast Division but just two points behind first-place Laredo…RW Michael Tucciarone, who attended the Aeros’ training camp in September, is sixth on the team with 13 points (6-7=13).



    Aeros drop pair
    OMA 4, HOU 0; PEO 4, HOU 1

    Saturday: Curtis McElhinney made 27 saves and Brandon Prust, Carsen Germyn and Richie Regehr each scored a goal in the third period, as the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights earned their second straight shutout of the Houston Aeros, 4-0 at Omaha Civic Auditorium. David Van der Gulik added a shorthanded goal late in the first period for Omaha.
    Josh Harding made 30 stops for Houston.

    Sunday: Peter Sejna tallied a goal and three assists, and linemates Mike Glumac and Charles Linglet each added a goal and two assists, as the Peoria Rivermen remained hot by defeating the Houston Aeros 4-1 at Carver Arena. Trent Whitfield added a power play marker and Marek Schwarz made 26 saves for Peoria.
    Bryan Lundbohm scored a power play goal and Josh Harding had 18 stops before begin pulled for Houston.
