HOUSTON SNAPS ROAD-SKID IN 3-1 WIN AT HAMILTON

HAMILTON, ON – Ryan Hamilton scored his third game-winning goal of the season to unlock a 1-1 tie in the third period and propel the Houston Aeros to a 3-1 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs Friday night at Copps Coliseum. The win marked the Aeros first road win in four tries and second overall on the road this season. Maxim Noreau tallied the Aeros’ first goal and Barry Brust stopped 25 of 26 shots for his second win of the season.

Game Recap

John Lammers capped the game with an empty net goal to give the Aeros a 7-4-0-0 record on the season. Houston gave Hamilton just their third regulation loss of the season dropping the Bulldogs record to 8-3-1-0. Houston will head to Rochester Saturday night in their second of a five-game road trip.

Yanick Lehoux put the home team up 1-0 early in the first period on a power play goal as he skated in on the left wing and wristed a shot over the glove of Brust at the 3:21 mark. Maxim Noreau potted his third of the season to tie the game at one when his hard snap shot from the top of the left circle beat Bulldogs’ netminder Marc Denis. Noreau’s goal came at the 15:31 mark of the first and he was assisted by Justin Falk and newly acquired Craig Valette. Hamilton outshot the Aeros 14-5 in the opening period but the teams remained tied heading into the intermission.

The Aeros controlled much of the pace in the second period outshooting the Bulldogs 14-4 in the period but Denis was up to the task and kept the home team tied after two periods.

It was beginning to look like the team to score the next goal would win and that was just the case as Hamilton netted his team-leading third game-winning goal of the season at the 9:13 mark of the third period. Hamilton took a feed from Jesse Schultz as he got behind the Bulldogs defense and lifted a backhand over the shoulder of Denis on the breakaway. Corey Locke earned the second assist on the play and tallied a point against his former team. Aeros’ goaltender Brust stayed strong in net for Houston in the final half of the third period and stopped all eight Bulldogs’ shots in the period. John Lammers capped the game with an empty net goal with 51 seconds remaining in the game for his third goal of the season.

The Aeros head to Rochester Saturday night to take on the Americans in their second game of this five-game road trip.
