AEROS FALL 3-2 TO ROCHESTER IN FIVE-GOAL THIRD PERIOD

ROCHESTER, NY – The Rochester Americans tallied three straight goals in the third period and held on to win 3-2 over the Houston Aeros Saturday night at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester. Houston rallied a comeback in the final minutes, but couldn’t score the equalizer. Stefan Meyer, Kenndal McArdle and Shawn Matthias all scored for the Americans who won their second game of the season (2-10-0-0). Houston fell to 7-5-0-0 with goals from John Lammers and Bryan Lundbohm. Houston will head to Syracuse Sunday night for their third game in three nights.

Game Recap

After two scoreless periods and not many scoring chances for either team, the Aeros and Amerks scored five goals in the third period. Rochester scored the go-ahead goal on a power play from Meyer at the 5:36 mark of the third period. McArdle and Matthias recorded goals separated by only 24 seconds to round out the Americans’ scoring for a 3-0 lead.

Lammers netted his fourth goal of the season for Houston on a power-play at 17:51 in the final period. With goaltender Nolan Schaefer pulled for the extra attacker, Lundbohm was able to tip in the puck with 23 seconds left to bring the Aeros within one. Houston couldn’t convert in the final seconds of the game as Rochester was able to clear the puck and not allow Houston to gain control at the end.

Each team finished with a power-play goal with Houston having seven attempts to Rochester’s five. Schaefer blocked 19 of 22 shots faced as opposing net-minder Chris Beckford-Tseu knocked aside 17 of the Aeros 19 shots.

Houston continues their five-game homestand with game three of the trip in Syracuse tomorrow for a game against the Crunch at 2:00 p.m. CST.
