CONVINCING 4-1 WIN ENDS AEROS WINLESS STREAK

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Houston Aeros ended their six-game winless streak Sunday night in a convincing 4-1 win over the Chicago Wolves at Allstate Arena. Jesse Schultz and Corey Locke each tallied their 100th professional goal in the win and Peter Olvecky tallied three assists as the Aeros ended their longest road trip of the season, an eight-game trip. Houston (18-17-1-7) will come home for a game on Friday, January 16 against the Toronto Marlies at 7:35 p.m. CST at Toyota Center. Tickets are available by calling (713) 974-PUCK.

GAMESHEET

Houston struck first at the 8:23 mark of the opening period when Ryan Hamilton tipped home a centering pass from Schultz. The power play goal marked the third time in the past eight games that the Aeros have scored the first goal. It also marked Hamilton’s second power play goal in the past three games. Wolves’ right wing Spencer Machacek scored a power play goal to tie the game at one at the 16:01 mark. Houston outshot the Wolves 13-10 in the period and the teams ended tied up at one goal apiece.

Schultz tallied his 100th professional goal at the 11:58 mark of the period on a nice breakout by the Aeros. Locke tipped the puck along the boards to Olvecky as he came down the left wing, Olvecky found Brandon Rogers trailing the play in the right circle and Rogers ripped a slapshot. Wolves goatender Dan Turple blocked the shot by Rogers, but Schultz was there to put in the rebound and score his 100th pro goal.

Houston took a 3-1 lead at the 19:48 mark of the second on Locke’s 100th professional goal. Locke received a pass from Schultz across the ice, dot-to-dot, and Locke lifted it over the shoulder of Turple short side to score the goal. Olvecky assisted on the play for his third assist of the night.

Chicago was whistled for three consecutive penalties in the third period. Houston didn’t convert on the power plays, however a lot of time ticked off the clock. Matt Beaudoin scored his second goal in as many games into an empty net with 20 seconds remaining to give the Aeros the 4-1 victory and first in seven games.  Aeros goaltender Nolan Schaefer stopped 24 of 25 shots for his 10th win of the season.

Notes:
- Houston had two players reach the 100-goal mark in the game. Jesse Schultz and Corey Locke both reached the plateau with their goals in the second period. Schultz reached the mark in his 343rd game and Locke in his 354th game.
- Houston ended their six-game winless streak with the win. The team hadn’t gone winless in six or more since the 2006-07 season.
