AEROS BATTLE FOR SHOOTOUT WIN OVER FLAMES

MOLINE, Ill.– Marco Rosa scored two power play goals and added a shootout marker in the Houston Aeros 4-3 victory over the Quad City Flames Saturday night at i wireless Center. Houston (29-22-1-8) battled back from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Flames (23-24-6-6) for the first time in five games. The Aeros moved into a tie for third place in the West Division with the Chicago Wolves with 67 points and will face the division-leading Milwaukee Admirals tomorrow night at the Bradley Center.

The Aeros power play unit scored all three of the team’s goals and finished 3-7 on the power play in the game while killing all three of Quad City’s power plays.

The Flames took a 2-0 lead scoring goals in the opening four minutes in each of the first two periods. Aki Seitsonen and John Vigilante both scored even strength goals for the home team before the Aeros bounced back. Rosa scored the first of two power play goals when he banged home a rebound off a Brandon Rogers shot at the 6:31 mark of the second period. The goal cut the lead in half before the second intermission.

Jesse Schultz scored his 18th goal of the season on a five-on-three power play just 1:22 into the third period to tie the game at two. He took a backdoor feed from Krys Kolanos and buried it into the open net.

Brett Sutter found the back of the net a little over three minutes later to give the Flames the lead again. It marked his seventh goal of the season and it was the third even strength goal of the game for the Flames.

Houston earned a power play at the 15:24 mark of the final period and Rosa tallied his second of the game just 1:18 later on another backdoor feed, this time from Danny Irmen. The teams remained tied at three for the final three minutes of regulation and the five-minute overtime period.

Aeros' goaltender Nolan Schaefer allowed the first goal in the shootout but wouldn’t be beaten again as he stopped four of five for his fifth shootout win of the season. Rosa and Kolanos scored for the Aeros in the shootout to give the Aeros their 29th win of the season.

Houston never led in the game until the third shooter of the shootout, but it was good enough for the victory and the team moved into a third place tie in the West Division with the Chicago Wolves. The win also marked the Aeros’ first win in five games against the Flames.
