AEROS DEFEAT PEORIA 2-1 ON JERSEY’S OFF THEIR BACKS NIGHT

HOUSTON, Texas – The Houston Aeros auctioned their “Jerseys Off Their Backs” in support of Houston Aeros Charities after they defeated the Peoria Rivermen 2-1 at Toyota Center Saturday night in front of 5,974 fans. Houston (34-25-1-8) scored two unanswered goals for the win to move the team back into sole possession of second place in the West Division. The teams meet up again tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. as the Aeros and Rivermen continue to battle for playoff positioning.

GAMESHEET

Peoria got the scoring started only 3:55 into the first period when Steve Regier stole the puck and centered it from behind Houston’s net. Cam Paddock picked up the disc and slapped it between Nolan Schaefer’s legs and a 1-0 lead and only goal of the night. Schaefer finished the evening with 19 saves on 20 shots. Only one penalty was called in the period which went against the Rivermen but Houston wasn’t able to convert on the ensuing power play. The Aeros out shot Peoria 12-5 in the period but had a one goal deficit heading into the intermission.

Houston tied the contest at one apiece at 4:17 in the second frame when Matt Beaudoin netted his 10th goal of the season. Corey Locke sent the puck across the crease at an angle from behind the goal line and Beaudoin slapped the puck through traffic into the back of the net. Clayton Stoner earned the second assist on the even-strength goal. Shots were even in the second period at eight shots each, with the Aeros’ lone goal tying the contest before heading to the final 20 minutes of play.

The score remained tied until 9:31 in the final period when Jason Ryznar stuffed the puck into the net after a scrum in front of the Rivermen crease. John Lammers and Matt Kassian each assisted on the marker. A late penalty against the Aeros put Peoria on a power play for the remaining 1:07 of the contest. The Rivermen pulled Legace in favor of an extra attacker giving the club a 6-on-4 advantage but the added pressure wasn’t enough to tie the contest and force overtime.

Locke’s assist on Beaudoin’s second period goal extended his point streak to eight games and is the longest streak of his career. Since the streak started on March 1st in Milwaukee, Locke has recorded nine points (2 goals, 7 assists) including a two-point outing this past Sunday.
