DAOUST RECORDS TWO ASSISTS IN LOSS
HOUSTON – The Houston Aeros (1-2-0-0) fell 3-2 to their newest rival, the Texas Stars (2-1-0-0), in front of 8,514 in the Aeros home opener at Toyota Center tonight. D Clayton Stoner and C Chad Rau scored for Houston and G Wade Dubielewicz tallied 17 saves in the loss. RW Sergei Korostin recorded the game-winning goal at the 9:30 mark of the third period and G Brent Kahn made 33 saves for his first win of the season. The game was the first of the inaugural “Lone Star Faceoff” for Houston.

“We had a good start, a lot of energy, and a good first period but an average second period with a little too many turnovers,” said head coach Kevin Constantine. “It’s too hard in hockey to come back so you can’t afford to do that. We worked hard at the end and it just wasn’t enough.”
The Aeros controlled the puck for the majority of the first period out-shooting Texas 12-4. Stoner fired a blue line shot that beat Stars Kahn over the left shoulder to put Houston up 1-0 at 17:29 of the first period(Calls of the Game: Stoner Goal). D Maxim Noreau and RW J-M Daoust were credited with the assists.
The Stars responded in the second period, tying the game at the 8:28 mark off the stick of C Greg Rallo. LW Francis Wathier assisted on the goal. The Stars would then take the lead 16:19 into the second when LW Scott McCulloh’s rebound attempt beat Dubielewicz. RW Colton Sceviour had the initial shot on net and notched the helper.
Texas controlled the puck throughout most of the third period as well. Korostin netted the eventual game-winner 9:30 into the period. C Travis Morin and Sceviour assisted on the goal. The Aeros attempted a late comeback, pulling Dubielewicz with four minutes remaining. Rau cut the deficit in half when a scrum in the front of the net ended in a goal to make it 3-2 Texas(Calls of the Game: Rau Goal). Daoust recorded his second assist on the goal. The Aeros finished the game with a flurry in front of the Stars net, but Texas was able hold on for the victory.
“We’re just working through this, it’s a work in progress,” Constantine said. “The way we started tonight, if we can get that kind of start and sustain it a little better, then we would be in pretty good shape.
The Aeros out-shot Texas 35-20 on the night, posting 19 third period shots on goal. Both teams finished 0-for-2 on the power-play. The Stars took the lead in the “Lone Star Faceoff” between Houston, Texas and the San Antonio Rampage with four points. The Aeros and Stars play again tomorrow night at Toyota Center. Puck drop is set for 7:35 p.m. and the first 3,000 fans receive a Texas rivalry t-shirt.
