HOUSTON – The “Lone Star Faceoff” continued Saturday for the Aeros (2-2-0-0) as they defeated the Texas Stars (2-1-0-1) 2-1 in a shootout in front of 5,736 at Toyota Center. C Peter Zingoni scored for the Aeros in regulation and RW Jon DiSalvatore netted the game-winning-goal in the shootout; G Anton Khudobin tallied 23 saves for his second win of the season. D Brad Lukowich scored the only goal for the Stars and G Matt Climie made 30 saves in the loss.

BOXSCORE

DiSalvatore scored the only goal of the shootout in the opening round, going low stick-side on Climie. Khudobin stopped all five shots faced in the shootout.

“I thought we played a more consistent game tonight over the whole game,” said Head Coach Kevin Constantine. “If you look at the consistency from shift-to-shift tonight, it was a lot steadier so that part we thought was real good.”

Zingoni scored the Aeros lone regulation goal coming at the 17:26 mark of the first period, scoring on a rebound off F Carson McMillan’s initial shot on net (Audio). The Aeros led 1-0 after the first, out-shooting Texas 7-4.

The Stars tied the game at 5:11 of the second period when D Brad Lukowich’s shot from the point deflected off the stick of Aeros D Jaime Fraser. Neither team was able to find the net for the remainder of the game. The Aeros out-shot the Stars 6-3 in the overtime period but were unable to beat Climie, sending the game to a shootout.

The Aeros have yet to allow a power play goal this season killing all four Texas power plays and improving to 16-for-16 on the season. The Aeros were 0-for-2 on the man advantage for the night and are now 2-for-13 on the season. The Aeros out-shot Texas 32-24. “There has been a bit of a tryout feel to the team and it’s pushing guys, and that’s a good thing,” Constantine said. “Everybody knows that when they go in they’ve got to play or there’s a chance you might get out of the lineup.”

The Aeros are back in action Friday, October 16, as they continue the “Lone Star Faceoff” with the San Antonio Rampage. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. and it’s Michael Jackson Tribute Night at Toyota Center, the first 3,000 fans will receive a replica glove in honor of the King of Pop. Friday’s game can also be heard on 1070 AM KNTH and ahllive.com.
