Wade Dubielewicz is taking some time away from the team to compete in the Spengler Cup for Team Canada in Davos, Switzerland this week. Dubielewicz, who is 7-7-0 with a 2.21 and 0.906 Sv% with the Aeros this season, takes the place of Texas Stars goaltender Brent Krahn who remains behind due to injury.
The first Spengler Cup was held in 1923 making it the longest running international hockey tournament in the world. Canada joins club teams Dynamo Minsk (Russia), Adler Mannheim (Germany), Energie Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic) and host HC Davos (Switzerland) in the tournament pool. The Canadians have won seven of the last 14 Spengler Cups including five runner-up showings.
Team Canada beat Energie Karlovy Vary 7-6 in a shootout to open play Saturday before defeating HC Davos today 6-2 to remain the only unbeaten team in tournament play. Dubielewciz saw time in both victories. The tournament wraps up Thursday, December 31.
