DAOUST SCORES THIRD GAME-WINNER OF SEASON

HOUSTON - RW J-M Daoust scored 55 seconds into overtime to give the Houston Aeros (27-21-6-1) a 1-0 shutout win over the Grand Rapids Griffins (24-29-0-1) in front of 6,893 at Toyota Center Saturday night. G Barry Brust (5-2-0) recorded 22 saves to earn his first shutout since a 2-0 victory at Lake Erie Apr. 2, 2008. G Daniel Larsson (16-16-1) stopped 34 of 35 for the Griffins.

BOXSCORE

Neither club managed to light the lamp in period number one as the Griffins held the shot advantage through the first, nine shots on goal to six. Houston killed the only two power play opportunities of the opening frame.

The second period was dominated by the penalty kill as each team failed to convert on four power play chances. Houston had the best opportunity of the period with a two minute 5-on-3 powerplay but the Griffins managed to keep the game scoreless. The Aeros outshot Grand Rapids 15-8 in the middle session.

The Aeros pressured the Griffins’ defense to the tune of 12 third period shots, but the Griffins killed two power plays to keep the game scoreless through regulation. Daoust finally ended the game inside the opening minute of the overtime period. D Maxim Noreau fired a right point bid that deflected to the tape of Daoust who went to his backhand for the game-winning goal. It is Daoust's third game-winner, tying him with RW Jon DiSalvatore, RW Danny Irmen, and C Nathan Smith for the club lead.

Both teams’ penalty killing units were a perfect 6-for-6 on the night while the Aeros outshot Grand Rapids 35-22. It is the first 1-0 overtime win for Houston this season and the first since Nov. 30, 2007 vs Peoria.

The Aeros finish their 3-in-3 tomorrow night with a 4:05 match-up against the Chicago Wolves at Toyota Center. The team will be debuting its alternate red jerseys for Valentine’s Day and encourage the fans to wear red to the game.
