AEROS END TRIP WITH 4-1 WIN AT PEORIA

BRUST MAKES 31 SAVES IN WIN

     PEORIA, IL – The Houston Aeros (28-24-6-1) scored twice in the second and third periods to come from behind and defeat the Peoria Rivermen (25-25-1-5) Sunday night 4-1 in front of 3,219 at Carver Arena. C Chad Rau scored on a penalty shot, LW Colton Gillies scored the game-winning-goal in the second period and G Barry Brust (6-4-0) made 31 saves for the victory. C Derek Armstrong scored the lone goal for Peoria and G Ben Bishop (15-15-3) made 17 saves in the loss.

     Peoria out-shot the Aeros 8-6 in a first period that included scoring chances for both teams. Armstrong finally put the Rivermen in front at 15:23 after a line change sent him behind the Aeros defense. The clearing pass from RW Adam Cracknell found Armstrong in the neutral zone where he skated alone on Brust and beat him blocker side for a 1-0 lead.

    Houston answered in the second period as Rau broke in on Bishop, his chance was nullified but Referee Jeff Smith awarded Rau with a penalty shot. On the penalty shot, Rau deked to his backhand and slid the puck under Bishop to tie the game 1-1 at 6:08.

    The Aeros were forced to kill a Cross-Checking penalty to C Cody Almond at 9:15 in just the first power play for either team. After the kill, Gillies entered the Peoria zone on a 3-on-1 where he fired a shot from inside the right faceoff dot past Bishop to give the Aeros a 2-1 lead at 15:50.

    Both teams began the third period with scoring chances and the Aeros capitalized off a Peoria turnover. RW Duncan Milroy intercepted the puck at the Peoria blue line and sent it behind the net. Milroy then centered the puck where he was able to bang in a loose rebound past Bishop at 4:45. Houston was able to kill off a penalty to D Jamie Fraser for Delay of Game at 12:12 and RW Danny Irmen sealed the win with his empty net goal at 19:59.

    Peoria out-shot the Aeros 32-21 on the night. Peoria went 0-for-3 on the power play while the Aeros did not receive a power play opportunity. Rau's goal was the first penalty shot goal for Houston since Joel Ward scored on Dan Ellis (4/11/07).
