AEROS RETURN HOME FRIDAY VERSUS PEORIA

 

     HOUSTON - RW Colton Sceviour broke a 3-3 tie with 5:41 remaining in the third period to lead the Texas Stars (35-22-3-4) to a 4-3 victory over the Houston Aeros (29-28-6-2) in front of 6,110 at Cedar Park Center Saturday night. RW Duncan Milroy scored two goals, D Ryan Gunderson had a goal and an assist and G Anton Khudobin (11-15-2) made 18 saves in the loss. RW Ray Sawada led the Stars with a goal and an assist and G Matt Climie (18-15-3) made 25 saves in the win.

    The Stars jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead beginning with a marker at 6:22 off the stick of C Travis Morin. Off a turnover by Aeros D Jaime Sifers, Texas sent the puck to the front of the net where Morin banged it by Khudobin for his 18th of the season. RW Sergei Korostin received the only assist on the play. At 16:38, C Perttu Lindgren broke into the Aeros zone on the left side and found a streaking Sawada up the middle of the ice where his snap shot from the slot found the back of the net. D Trevor Ludwig received the second assist on Sawada's fifth of the season.

    The Aeros responded in the second period after a strong drive to the net by C Peter Zingoni. On the rebound Houston gained control, Gunderson sent a shot to the net that was deflected in front and banged in by Milroy, his ninth of the season at 8:52. D Maxim Noreau received the second assist, his team leading 46th point (17-29=46) of the season.

   
Texas extended its lead to 3-1 just 1:15 into the third period when C Warren Peters moved past Noreau in the Aeros zone and snapped a shot by Khudobin. Houston responded to tie with two quick goals, beginning with Gunderson's fifth of the season at 3:08. D Jamie Fraser and RW Jon DiSalvatore assisted on the goal. With the assist, Fraser extends his point streak to seven games (3-4=7). At 4:38, Milroy scored his second of the game with a quick shot of a faceoff win by C Nathan Smith giving him consecutive multi-point efforts. The Aeros continued to generate opportunities but were unable to find the go-ahead marker. Sceviour then scored the game-winning-goal at 14:19, skating from the left wing boards to the center of the ice before firing a shot by Khudobin.

    The Aeros outshot Texas 28-22 on the night. Houston went 1-for-5 on the power play and has now scored a power play goal in three consecutive games; Texas finished 0-for-5 on the power play. Texas extends its lead over Houston to 11 points in the West Division, Texas also has an eight point lead over Houston in the State Farm Lone Star Faceoff Standings.
