ABOUT THE TRAVERSE CITY TOURNAMENT

The Traverse City NHL Prospects Tournament began in 1998 with the host Detroit Red Wings and three other teams and due to the growing interest expanded to a total of eight teams and is now a popular tourist attraction in northern Michigan.

The teams will be divided into two divisions (Howe Division and Gretzky Division) with round robin play in the divisions and then ranked based upon their win-loss record for final placement in the Championship, Third, Fifth, and Seventh place games on the final day of the tournament, Wednesday, September 15th.  The champions of the Traverse City NHL Prospects Tournament will be presented with a plaque and their name engraved onto a permanent trophy that is displayed year-round at Center ICE Arena.

The Minnesota Wild Prospects team will be placed in the Gretzky Division along with Columbus, Carolina and the New York Rangers.

The Wild will take on the Carolina Hurricanes to begin the tournament on Saturday, September 11th at 2:00pm.  The Wild continue round robin play taking on the Columbus Blue Jackets at 1:00pm on Sunday, September 12th.  The Wild finish round robin play on Tuesday, September 14th against the New York Rangers at 2:30pm.
