HOUSTON AEROS ROLL TO FIRST WIN WITH A 5-1 VICTORY
Houston Returns Home Sunday at 5:05 p.m. to Host Milwaukee

Houston, TX – The Houston Aeros (1-2-0-0, 2 points) defeated the Texas Stars (2-1-0-0, 4 points) 5-1 in front of 5,738 fans on Friday at the Toyota Center. The Aeros picked up their first win of the season over the in-state rival behind a balanced offensive attack. Defenseman Brian Connelly led the charge with a goal and two assists. Forwards David McIntyre, Zack Phillips, Charlie Coyle and Jason Zucker also scored in the win. Defenseman Marco Scandella added two assists for the Aeros. Houston goalie Matt Hackett preserved the win with 26 saves. Texas goalie Christopher Nilstorp stopped 24 of 29 in the defeat. Texas forward Alex Chiasson also scored the Stars lone goal in the team’s first defeat of the season. Houston will play at 7:00 p.m. at the Cedar Park Center on Saturday.

Winger Charlie Coyle put the Aeros in front 1-0 at 4:49 of the first period, tipping in a Drew Bagnall shot. Defenseman Brian Connelly added an assist on Coyle’s second goal of the season. Houston increased its lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal by Marco Scandella at 18:12. Jason Zucker was camped out in the Texas crease providing a screen, not allowing Stars goalie Christopher Nilstorp to see the shot. Connelly and Mikael Granlund each had an assist on Scandella’s first goal of the season.

After a scoreless second period, Texas pulled within a goal at 4:52. Stars forward Alex Chiasson flipped in a rebound to cut the Aeros lead to 2-1. Left wing Francis Wathier and defenseman Jamie Oleksiak each had an assist on Texas’ first goal of the night. The Aeros countered at 9:44, regaining their two-goal lead after David McIntyre scored his first goal of the season. McIntyre finished off a centering pass from Jarod Palmer.  Houston forward Carson McMillan added an assist on the play to make it 3-1 Aeros. Houston continued to add to its lead, as rookie Zack Phillips snapped a wrist shot past Nilstorp at 13:46. Phillips’ first pro goal made it 4-1 Aeros. Houston tacked on another goal in the last minute, as Connelly connected for a power-play goal at 19:14 for the 5-1 win.
