HOUSTON AEROS OUTLAST OKLAHOMA CITY BARONS 6-4
Houston Returns Home to Host Milwaukee on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.

Oklahoma City, OK – The Houston Aeros (3-2-1-0, 7 points) defeated the Oklahoma City Barons (3-3-0-0, 6 points) 6-4 in front of 2,995 fans on Friday night at the Cox Convention Center. Houston goalie Darcy Kuemper (2-0-0) made a strong relief appearance, stopping 14 of 15 Barons shots in 44:22 of work and erasing a 3-2 deficit. Right wing Justin Fontaine led the comeback by scoring twice and adding an assist for three points. Center Chad Rau scored the eventual game-winning goal at 3:35 of the third period, giving the Aeros their fourth straight game with at least a point (3-0-1-0). Forwards Charlie Coyle and Mikael Granlund also scored, improving the Aeros record 2-1-0-0 on the road. Defenseman Marco Scandella picked up two assists, giving him seven in his last four games. Oklahoma City goalie Yann Danis (2-2-0) suffered the defeat with 33 saves on 39 shots. Houston will host Milwaukee at the Toyota Center on Saturday night at 7 p.m. 

Houston and Oklahoma City combined for five goals in the opening period, with the Barons striking for three goals. The Aeros opened the scoring at 5:50 of the first period after Charlie Coyle jammed in the puck for his third goal of the season. Forward Johan Larsson and defenseman Brian Connelly each had an assist on the game’s first goal. Oklahoma City battled back with a pair of goals, starting with Magnus Paajarvi’s second goal of the season at 9:24 of the first period. Defenseman Jesse Schultz and center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins set up the Barons power-play goal. Less than three minutes later, Oklahoma City moved in front 2-1 as Tanner House scored his first goal of the season at 12:21. Dane Byers and Schultz each had an assist on the Barons second goal of the night. Houston pulled even at 14:42, after Justin Fontaine tipped a Jonas Brodin point shot for a 2-2 game. Defenseman Steven Kampfer also added a power-play assist on Fontaine’s first goal of the year.  Oklahoma City took a 3-2 lead into the intermission, scoring the period’s final goal at 15:21. Forward Mark Arcobello scored his first goal of the night, from Paajarvi and Mark Marincin. The goal ended Matt Hackett’s night, the Aeros goalie was pulled after allowing three goals on five shots.

The Aeros tied the game at 7:10 of the second period. Center Mikael Granlund netted his third goal of the season for a 3-3 game. Defensemen Marco Scandella and Brian Connelly each had an assist on the play. Houston claimed its second lead of the evening at 14:57 of the middle frame, as center Carson McMillan scored his first goal of the season. Fontaine and Scandella each had a hand in the team’s fourth goal of the night. The Barons pulled even with the Aeros at 19:42 of the second period. Arcobello jammed in a rebound for his second goal of the night and a 4-4 game.

Early in the third period, the Aeros claimed their third one-goal lead of the night. Center Chad Rau scored off of a loose puck in the Barons crease for the 5-4 lead. Joel Broda and Nick Palmieri helped set up Rau’s first goal of the year at 3:35. Fontaine sealed the Houston win by pushing the lead to 6-4 at 15:12 of the third period. Aeros forwards Carson McMillan and David McIntyre set up Fontaine’s second goal of the night.

Houston will return home on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 7:05 p.m. with the Milwaukee Admirals.  The team will celebrate Halloween with Chilly’s costume party. The first 2,000 fans to the game will be handed a Chilly Halloween photo, compliments of American Business Machines.
