HOUSTON AEROS TO GROW MOUSTACHES TO PARTICIPATE IN MOVEMBER
Aeros to Raise Money for Cancers That Affect Men for the Entire Month
Houston, TX – The Houston Aeros will participate in “Movember”, growing moustaches in November to raise awareness of cancers that affect men.
Aeros players and staff will grow moustaches to serve as walking billboards for Movember, a month-long initiative to help raise vital awareness and funds for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men. The Aeros Movember team will post weekly photos of the players and possibly staff members on the Aeros Movember page. The team is also partnering with a local prostate cancer prevention organization called Blue Cure (www.blueCure.org). The players will be sharing ways to prevent prostate cancer throughout the month and will help men be aware of Blue Cure and prevention facts.
Numerous hockey players and thousands of men around the world become “Mo Bros” by participating in Movember each November. Mo Bros try to “groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery” by raising funds for their efforts. Participants start on Nov. 1 with clean-shaven faces to raise awareness by prompting conversations about the often ignored issue of men’s health.
Fans can donate at http://us.movember.com/mospace/2992657 either directly to a member of the Aeros front office staff or to the players through the “Donate to Team” button. Weekly moustache progress photos and updates will be posted to www.aeros.com and the team’s social media channels.
Funds raised in the U.S. support prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men, through programs run directly by Movember and its men’s health partners, the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG. In 2011, over 854,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas joined the cause and raised $126.3 million. All funds support a broad range of innovative, world-class programs in line with Movember’s strategic goals in the areas of awareness and education, survivorship and research.
Houston will play two games in Oklahoma City this coming weekend, prior to coming back home on Sunday, Nov. 4. The Aeros play the Barons on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Cox Convention Center. Houston will return home on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. with the Grand Rapids Griffins at the Toyota Center. This season, every Sunday home game is a Sunday Family Day.
