HOUSTON AEROS SWEEP OKLAHOMA CITY, WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT

Houston, TX – The Houston Aeros (11-6-1-2, 25 points) defeated the Oklahoma City Barons (11-6-1-2, 25 points) 4-3 on Friday night in front of 8,755 fans at Toyota Center. Rookie right wing Jason Zucker scored twice and added an assist, leading Houston to its fifth straight win. Houston goalie Matt Hackett (8-5-2) made 24 saves in regulation for the win and ended the Barons eight-game unbeaten streak. Forward Johan Larsson also scored and added an assist, helping the Aeros rattle of their fourth straight win at Toyota Center. Leading scorer Justin Fontaine extended his scoring streak to four games with a goal in the victory. It marked the team’s fourth win in five games versus the Barons this season. Oklahoma City goalie Olivier Roy (2-3-0) stopped 23 of 27 shots in regulation. Barons Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Mark Arcobello each scored in the defeat, the team’s first in regulation since Nov. 9. Houston will play at Texas on Friday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Cedar Park Center.
The Aeros opened the scoring at 7:49 of the first period. Center Zack Phillips fired a cross ice pass from the corner of the Barons zone. Justin Fontaine accepted the pass with a one-timer, ripping the puck into the Oklahoma City net past Olivier Roy. Nick Palmieri added an assist on Fontaine’s eighth goal of the season for the 1-0 lead. The Barons tied the game 1-1 with a power-play goal by Jordan Eberle at 11:28. Just Schultz and Taylor Hall each had an assist on Eberle’s 12th goal of the season. Houston would strike back with a shorthanded goal at 13:14. Johan Larsson broke up an Aeros rush and set up Jason Zucker, who rifled his tenth goal of the season past Roy for a 2-1 Houston lead. Oklahoma City tied the game 2-2 with its second power-play goal of the night at 13:39. Center Mark Arcobello fired a wrist shot past Matt Hackett, scoring his sixth goal of the season from Taylor Fedun and Magnus Paajarvi.
The Aeros scored the only goal of the second period, moving in front 3-2 at 13:03 of the middle period. Rookie Johan Larsson found a rebound in the Barons crease and lifted a shot into the open net for his sixth goal of the season. Defenseman Brian Connelly and Zucker each provided an assist on the power-play goal.
Zucker pushed the Aeros lead to 4-2 at 13:00 with a power-play goal, his second tally of the night. The unassisted goal was Zucker’s 11th goal of the season. The Barons countered 22 seconds later to pull back within at goal at 4-3. Taylor Hall blasted a shot past Matt Hackett for his fifth goal of the year at 13:22. Schultz added his second assist of the game on the final goal of the game.
Houston will play in Cedar Park against the Texas Stars on Friday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. The Aeros return to Toyota Center on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 5:05 p.m. to host the Peoria Rivermen. Fans are allowed to purchase a ticket for their dog and bring their canine in honor of “Chilly’s Pets Pals”. The Aeros will have a “dog friendly” section complete with a water and relief station. Any fan who brings a dog toy as part of the Dog Toy Drive will receive two tickets to a select future Aeros home game. Every Sunday throughout the season is Family Day, where fans may purchase four tickets, parking and four Aeros prizes starting at $54.
