HOUSTON AEROS COMEBACK ON ROCKFORD, WIN 3-2
San Antonio Visits Toyota Center on Feb 3. at 7:05 p.m.

Houston, TX – The Houston Aeros (22-16-4-3, 51 points) defeated the Rockford IceHogs (20-23-1-1, 42 points) 3-2 on Sunday in front of 7,321 fans at Toyota Center. Houston forwards David McIntyre and Brett Bulmer scored 62 seconds apart late in the third period, erasing a 2-1 Rockford lead and giving the Aeros a comeback win on home ice. Defenseman Chay Genoway helped spearhead the attack with two assists, as Houston improved to 13-7-2-2 at home this season. Aeros goalie Darcy Kuemper (9-5-0) allowed two first-period goals, but held the IceHogs scoreless the remainder of the game for the victory – stopping 24 Rockford shots in the last two periods. Defenseman Kyle Beach added a goal, as Houston moved to 2-1-0-0 against the IceHogs this season. Rockford goalie Carter Hutton (16-17-1) suffered the defeat with 23 saves. Houston will host San Antonio on Monday, Feb. 4 at 7:05 p.m. at Toyota Center.

Jimmy Hayes gave Rockford a 1-0 lead at 5:28 of the first period with a power-play goal. Adam Clendening and Carter Hutton each had an assist on Hayes’ 13th goal of the season. Kyle Beach extended Rockford’s lead to 2-0 at 17:44 of the first period. Klas Dahlbeck and Jeremy Morin each had assists on Beach’s tenth goal of the season. Houston cut the IceHogs lead to 2-1 at 19:39 of the first as Kyle Medvec netted his third goal of the season with an even-strength, four-on-four goal. Medvec blasted a shot from the blue-line, sending the puck past Rockford’s Carter Hutton. Justin Fontaine and Chay Genoway each had an assist on Medvec’s tally.

After a scoreless second period, left wing Brett Bulmer tied the game with 6:28 left in regulation. Bulmer rifled a wrist shot over the shoulder of Hutton for his second goal of the season and a 2-2 tie. Former IceHog Jake Dowell had the lone assist on the play for the Aeros at 13:42. Just over a minute later, David McIntyre gave Houston a 3-2 lead with his 10th goal of the season at 14:40. Defenseman Chay Genoway sprung McIntyre into the Rockford zone and the Aeros forward blasted a slapshot past Hutton for the game-winning goal.

Houston wraps a three-game home stand with San Antonio on Monday, Feb. 4 at 7:05 p.m.  The team embarks on an eight-game road trip starting on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Grand Rapids at 6 p.m. CT.
