AEROS PICK UP ROAD WIN IN MILWAUKEE, SINK ADMIRALS 3-2
Houston Plays in Grand Rapids at 6 p.m. on Friday

Milwaukee, WI – The Houston Aeros (19-15-4-3, 45 points) defeated the Milwaukee Admirals (17-17-3-3, 40 points) 3-2 on Wednesday night in front of 2,906 fans at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. Forward Nick Petersen scored with 2:01 left in the second period and goalie Darcy Kuemper made 12 saves in the third period to preserve the win. Forwards David McIntyre and Jason Zucker also scored, as Houston ended its six-game winless streak (0-4-2-0). Kuemper (6-4-0) finished with 26 saves, guiding his team to its first road victory since Dec. 7, ending a nine-game winless streak (0-6-2-1) away from home ice. Milwaukee goalie Jeremy Smith (13-14-3) suffered the loss with 22 saves. Houston will play in Grand Rapids at 6 p.m. (CT) on Friday, Jan. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 26.

The two teams traded goals less than two minutes apart in the first period of play. Milwaukee’s Chris Mueller started the scoring at 7:25, finishing off a touch-pass by Taylor Beck for the 1-0 lead. Brad Winchester added an assist on Mueller’s 13th goal of the season. Houston countered at 9:05 of the period, as forward David McIntyre tallied his eighth goal of the season for the 1-1 tie. McIntyre redirected a Charlie Coyle pass behind goalie Jeremy Smith. Defenseman Chay Genoway added an assist on the Aeros first goal of the night.

In the second period, Houston claimed its first lead of the night off an Admirals turnover at 5:07. Right wing Jason Zucker picked off an errant pass and rifled his 17th goal of the season past Jeremy Smith for the 2-1 Aeros lead. Milwaukee evened the scoring at 2-2 late in the second period off Austin Watson’s 14th goal of the season. Watson was set up by Scott Valentine and Patrick Cehlin. Houston moved back in front prior to the end of the period, countering 52 seconds after Milwaukee tied the game. Stephane Veilleux dropped off a pass in the high slot for Nick Petersen, who scored his fourth goal of the year with a wrist shot. Johan Larsson added an assist as Houston carried a 3-2 lead into the intermission.

Neither team was able to score in the third period, as Aeros goalie Darcy Kuemper made 12 saves in the final frame to preserve the win.

Houston continues a five-game road trip on Friday at 6 p.m. in Grand Rapids against the Griffins. The team returns to Toyota Center after the All-Star break, hosting Texas on Friday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m.
