St. Paul, MN – The Houston Aeros were back on the ice for the second scrimmage of the preseason at Xcel Energy Center on Sunday morning. The Green team took its second straight scrimmage over the Red team, sweeping the weekend series with a 5-2 win. Mikael Granlund, Justin Fontaine, Jarod Palmer and Jason Zucker powered the Green team to a 4-1 lead in the first half of play. Goalie John Curry stopped 11 of 12 in the first half, picking up the win for the Green team. Kris Foucault had a hand in each Red team tallies, scoring one goal and assisting on Johan Larsson’s tally. Goaltender Matt Hackett stopped 21 of 25 in the loss for the Red team.

Center Mikael Granlund put in a rebound to open the scoring in the first half with a power-play goal. Granlund potted his first tally of the weekend off the rebound of a Steven Kampfer shot. Defenseman Brian Connelly added an assist on the play that made it 1-0. The Red team responded quickly, scoring a power-play goal of its own to tie the scrimmage 1-1. Forward Kris Foucault blasted a shot past John Curry, finishing off a pass from defenseman Tyler Cuma. Winger Brett Bulmer also helped out on the play, picking up the assist. Justin Fontaine put the Green team in front for good moments later, chipping a rebound past Matt Hackett to give his squad a 2-1 lead. Moments later, defenseman Colton Jobke blasted a shot off the end boards and the puck bounced towards the Red team’s crease. Jarod Palmer finished off the play, giving the Green team a 3-1 lead. Jason Zucker rounded out the first-half scoring for the Green. Connelly and Charlie Coyle worked the puck down low for Zucker, who gave the Green a 4-1 lead heading into the break.

The Red team started the scoring in the second half, as Johan Larsson lifted a backhand-rebound past Darcy Kuemper. Kris Foucault and Marco Scandella set up the play, trimming the deficit to 4-2. The Green team rounded out the scoring, taking advantage of an empty net late in the half.  Zach Phillips made it a 5-2 final with an unassisted empty-net goal. Kuemper played the entire second half for the Green team, stopping eight of nine.
