ADMIRALS EDGE AEROS IN OT 5-4
Houston Takes Five Out of Six Points over the Weekend

Houston, TX – The Houston Aeros (2-2-1-0, 5 points) were defeated by the Milwaukee Admirals (2-2-0-0, 4 points) 5-4 in overtime in front of 4,263 fans on Sunday at the Toyota Center. Milwaukee defenseman Mattias Ekholm blasted a shot past Matt Hackett, scoring a power-play goal 51 seconds into overtime and lifting the Admirals to victory. Aeros forward Nick Palmieri scored with 58 seconds remaining in regulation to force the extra session and ensure at least a point for Houston. Aeros defensemen Jonas Brodin and Chay Genoway, as well as forward Kris Foucault scored in the OT defeat. Houston goalie Matt Hackett (1-2-1) made 26 saves in the loss. Milwaukee goalie Magnus Hellberg (1-0-0) stopped 17 of 21 Houston shots. Houston will play in Oklahoma City at 7 p.m. this Friday at the Cox Convention Center.

Houston jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals just 31 seconds apart. Defenseman Chay Genoway blasted a point shot through traffic and past Milwaukee goalie Magnus Hellberg for a 1-0 Aeros lead. Houston forwards Mikael Granlund and Johan Larsson each had an assist on the opening goal at 2:32. Kris Foucault buried the puck into the back of the Admirals net to extend the Houston lead to 2-0 at 3:03. Aeros defenseman Steven Kampfer and center Chad Rau helped set up the tally. Prior to the end of the period, Milwaukee’s Taylor Beck stuffed in a rebound, beating goalie Matt Hackett and pulling the Admirals within a goal at 2-1. Defenseman Jonathan Blum and center Chris Mueller helped set up the power-play goal at 19:40 of the first period.

Milwaukee scored the lone goal of the second period with only 2:06 left on the clock. Mark Van Guilder found a rebound in the Houston crease and shuffled it into the back of the net. Scott Valentine and Austin Watson set up Van Guilder’s first goal of the season, tying the game 2-2.

In the third period, Houston defenseman Jonas Brodin blasted a shot from the blueline to give the Aeros a 3-2 lead. Center Chad Rau had the lone assist on Brodin’s second goal of the season at 10:28. Milwaukee countered just 57 seconds later as Chris Mueller scored his second goal of the year for a 3-3 tie. Forwards Michael Latta and Taylor Beck set up the Admirals even-strength tally at 11:25. Milwaukee took its first lead of the game at 12:19, as Kevin Henderson scored his first goal of the season. Austin Watson had the only assist as Milwaukee moved in front 4-3. The Aeros pulled goalie Matt Hackett in exchange for the extra skater in the last minute. Houston capitalized at 19:02, as Nick Palmieri scored his third goal in his last two games. Marco Scandella and Zach Phillips each had an assist as the Aeros tied the game 4-4 and forced OT. 

Milwaukee defenseman Mattias Ekholm gave the Admirals the win with a power-play goal 51 seconds into overtime. Mueller and Taylor Beck had the assists on the game-winning goal.

The Aeros will head to Oklahoma City on Friday to meet the Barons at 7 p.m. at the Cox Convention Center. Houston will return home on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 7:05 p.m. with the Milwaukee Admirals.  The team will celebrate Halloween with Chilly’s costume party. The first 2,000 fans to the game will be handed a Chilly Halloween photo, compliments of American Business Machines.
