Kuemper Makes 33 Saves for the Shutout
Houston, TX – The Houston Aeros (4-2-1-0, 9 points) defeated the Milwaukee Admirals (2-4-0-0, 4 points) 4-0 on Saturday night in front of 5,865 fans at the Toyota Center. Houston goalie Darcy Kuemper (3-0-0) stopped all 33 Admirals shots for the shutout, including 15 shots in the third period. Rookie forward Charlie Coyle scored twice, while defenseman Brian Connelly and forward Johan Larsson each had a goal and an assist. The win extended the team’s points streak to five games (4-0-1-0) and ended a six-game losing streak to the Admirals. Milwaukee goalie Jeremy Smith (1-4-0) made 24 saves in the loss. The Aeros will travel to Oklahoma City for a pair of games next weekend, starting Friday at 7 p.m.
The Aeros took a 1-0 lead at 10:46 of the opening frame after Charlie Coyle knocked in a rebound for his fourth goal of the season. Center Mikael Granlund and defenseman Steven Kampfer each had an assist on the play. With the assist, Granlund extended his points streak to five straight games with at least a point. Houston made it 2-0 at 18:38 as defenseman Brian Connelly fired a puck through traffic and into the back of the Milwaukee net. Forward Kris Foucault had the lone assist on Connelly’s second goal of the year.
After a scoreless second period, Coyle scored his second goal of the night at 4:54 of the third period. Connelly and forward Johan Larsson each had an assist on the play, as Houston pushed its lead to 3-0. At 15:33, Larsson made it a 4-0 game with his first AHL goal. The rookie forward created a scoring chance in the Milwaukee zone and flipped the puck past Jeremy Smith. Granlund added an assist on the play.
Houston will play two games in Oklahoma City this coming weekend, prior to coming back home on Sunday, Nov. 4. The Aeros play the Barons on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Cox Convention Center. Houston will return home on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 5:05 p.m. with the Grand Rapids Griffins at the Toyota Center. This season, every Sunday home game is a Sunday Family Day. Aeros fans may purchase four tickets, parking and four Aeros gifts starting at $54.
