COUTURE RETURNING TO ONTARIO REIGN
Houston Plays in Milwaukee at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday

Houston, TX – Houston Aeros General Manager Jim Mill announced on Wednesday that forward Derek Couture has been released from his PTO (professional tryout agreement).

The 28-year old will return to the Ontario Reign of the ECHL after playing in eight games for the Aeros without registering a point. On January 13th, Couture played in his 300th AHL game, a 2-1 overtime loss at home to Charlotte. In 28 games with the Reign this season, Couture scored 13 goals and added 16 assists for 29 points. At the time of his recall, the veteran forward was fourth on the team in goals scored and first with 138 penalty minutes. Over his eight-year pro career, Couture has played in a total of 301 AHL games for the Houston Aeros, Binghamton Senators, Connecticut Whale, Hartford Wolf Pack, Quad City Flames and the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights.  The 6-foot-1, 205-pound forward has 81 career AHL points off 39 goals and 42 assists, while adding 445 penalty minutes.  The Calgary, AB native has also played in 143 ECHL games, scoring 56 times and adding 77 assists for 133 points, to go along with 452 penalty minutes.

Houston continues a five-game road trip on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Milwaukee against the Admirals. The team returns to Toyota Center after the All-Star break, hosting Texas on Friday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m.
